The Russley Writers had five minutes to choose three items from a pile of equipment. They were then given opening paragraphs to a survival story (in italics), starring themselves. With oodles of imagination and resourcefulness they came up with creative ways to use their chosen equipment to get themselves out of some sticky situations. Here is Jordan's survival story:
The helicopter drops me in a clearing
in the forest. I have five minutes to
choose three items of equipment to help me survive this dangerous journey. I
grab:
1.
Scooter
2.
Basketball
3 Hair dryer
I heave the pack onto
my back and bolt into the woods. I turn to see a pack of killer rabbits advancing towards me. I reach
into my pack and take out my scooter and whack the rabbits in the head
until they all die and then I move away to go somewhere else to build a hut to
stay for a night. I find a broken down
hut at the top of some trees.
I came to a raging river infested with ravenous crocodiles. There is no way around I must
somehow cross the treacherous water. I reach into my pack and grab my
basketball. I throw the basketball at
the croc’s head to get it confused so I can run over an icy part of the river.
I come to a swamp and
begin to make my way cautiously through. Suddenly I lose my footing and find
myself sinking… and realise I have stepped into quicksand! I reach into my pack
and grab out my hair
dryer and turn it on so I could fly my way out of the quicksand. I fly over to
the other side where I see a helicopter waiting to take me back to
civilization. I realise I have made it through the five days of treacherous
weather and all of the scary things I had been through.
That is a really clever way of getting out of a swamp!!!
