CHRISTMAS IS...

CHRISTMAS IS…
by Kimberly C

Christmas is the rustle of wrapping paper
mountains of presents and laughter
and happiness

I can smell the sweet meet
on the BBQ

Christmas is love and hugs
and a kiss
the taste of chips crunching
the sound of kids screaming and jumping up

Christmas is love and family
and kids and food
definitely!

CHRISTMAS IS
by Josh T

Christmas is
mouth-watering turkey
it is the rustle of soft wrapping paper
Christmas is a
time for crackers
pull the thing and see what you have won
It is time for
the toys to be unleashed
like a stampede of dinosaurs chasing a rabbit

Christmas is a cricket ball
bashing the wickets

CHRISTMAS IS…
by Fergus

Christmas is
fun, laughter,
ringing bells

Christmas is zooming
down
a steep
waterslide
like a tornado
and at the end your dad
fishes you out

CHRISTMAS IS…
by Phoenix

Christmas is pavlova on the plate
with whipped cream out of the bowl
kiwis, strawberries, M&Ms, chocolate
and oranges.

Christmas is Christmas crackers
going boom crack
yay, I won something!

Christmas is Santa saying ho, ho, ho
coming down the chimney
giving presents to all.

Christmas is mistletoe
people kissing
eww, not me!

Christmas is presents getting unwrapped
Yay! I got an ipod touch!

Christmas is songs playing
over and over
and over and over
again.

CHRISTMAS IS…
by Farren

Christmas is pav with chocolate pebbles
strawberries
with whipped cream.

Christmas is the big breath you take
when you see all the presents.

Christmas is the magical smiles on
everyone’s faces.

Christmas is Santa poking his head
through the window.

Christmas is the time your mum and dad
bring out the mistletoe… yuck!

Christmas is the time of year to bring
out your inner elf.

Christmas is Christmas carols on
your doorstep.

Christmas is when family come and have
a Christmas dinner.

CHRISTMAS IS...
by Ella S

Christmas is shelling peas
fresh from the garden.

Christmas is magical laughter,
fun and surprises.

I feel the summer sun getting brighter
in my eyes.

I smell yummy pavlova
with strawberries, bananas
and kiwifruit…
the adults feast.

CHRISTMAS IS…
by Kim S

Ripping Christmas presents open
for a surprise

It is Christmas crackers popping
winning a mini prize

It is delicious desserts getting eaten
in one bite

It is going on holiday to a place
you’ve never been before

It is spending time with your aunties, uncles,
cousins and sisters
as a family at Christmas

You see your family laughing and joking
you know it is the best
spending time with family is the best thing
you will ever have in your life.

CHRISTMAS IS...
Christmas is … waking up to the rustling noises of wrapping paper.
Christmas is … unwrapping presents with family.
Christmas is … a treat having family there
our special Christmas dinner, roast chicken
and for desert it is chocolate pudding.
Christmas is … playing with Christmas presents

Awa Nui Colours

YELLOW
by Ella S

I am as golden as the hot burning sand

I am flames on sparklers

I am a stinging bumble bee

I am peanut butter on toast

I am as spiky as a pineapple

I am butter about to get chopped up

GREEN
by Emilia K

I am a leaf on a tree blowing in the wind

I am juicy grass growing in sweet water

I am a stalk helping flowers grow tall

I am a tropical bird soaring through the forest

I am a bean seed finding way up to the surface

I am goo oozing from under the door

I am a Christmas tree that has been decorated

I AM WHITE
by Amy T

I am daisies swaying in the wind.
I am froth bubbling on top
of a hot chocolate.

I am frost growing up a piece of grass.
I am a fluffy cloud in the afternoon
sinking down into the sun.

I am a swan paddling into the rapids.
I am icing sugar sprinkling down
like snowflakes.

Colour Poetry

Two contrasting colour poems from Team Awa Nui students:

I am the rose in your butterfly garden.
I am the blood in your body, flowing around keeping you alive.
I am the cheek on your face, blushing when you're around a boy.
I am the fire extinguisher keeping the foam inside.
I am the crimson Christmas lights on the glowing tree, shining my bright self.
I am the stop sign, stopping people from crashing... but people do sometimes.
I am strawberries with icing sugar on top.
by Phoenix, Year 6

I am the cold Arctic ocean. I am the sky on a summer's morning. I am Lake Tekapo, full of fish swishing around. I am a Russley School top.

Athletics day poetry

I could feel my heart racing.
I saw people getting ready.
I could taste sweat.
I could feel the grass on my feet.
I heard people cheering.

On Your Marks!

On your marks, get set, go!!!
People screaming as loud as a tornado.
Sweat pouring down into my mouth.
Ice block soothing.
Heart pounding with butterflies.
Kids playing like daffodils in the wind.
Shot-put landing, thump, thump!

- by Emelia

people cheering happily

Mr Ish announced the winner

ME!

My heart was beating
like a crazy washing machine

The delicious taste of iceblocks

Stormy Poems

The Wind - by Catherine
The wind is Mrs Harrison shouting at Mr Harrison.
The wind is a soccer ball zooming through the air with force.
The wind is the roaring of a T Rex (Tyrannosaurus Rex).

The Wind – by Elizabeth
The wind is an army charging
it is an elephant calmly moving his ear
the wind is my figgy pudding
the wind is a big boom
it is a racing car in a race
it is a leaf falling to the ground

The Thunderstorm – by Elizabeth
Gusty winds wobble the classroom. I get a big shock as... Zap! A giant lightning bolt hits somewhere not too far away. The hail sounds like a pen hitting the paper. The rain dances on the door and I am instantly frightened. The thunder is like applause.

The Storm – by Oliver
The thunder was as scary as a gorilla’s armpit.
The streets were quiet as it was bucketing down.
Electricity was gone for the people in the city.
BOOM! SMASH! CLANG! The people had a sleepless night.

The Wind – by Ella
the wind is a marching crowd
the wind is a spooky ghost
the wind is the smell of fish and chips
the wind is the smell of pavalova
the wind is a dinosaur howl

The Wind – by Baylee
The wind is a roaring lion at the beach.
It is a ghost trying to haunt.
it is lions teeth biting its prey.

The Storm – by Baylee
Bang! The thunder is as loud as a herd of mammoths.
The lightning was as bright as flashing, zooming,
frightening thunderclouds.

The hangi looked like a real kitchen but underground.
