Congratulations Emma!

Emma Zhen with judge James Norcliffe
Congratulations to year 3 student Emma Zhen, who was a finalist in a Christchurch writing competition.

The Blue Globe: Stories from Christchurch Art Gallery competition was designed to feed children’s curiosity, inspire them and challenge their creative side. Entrants chose an artwork from the Gallery's online collection and produced a short piece of writing inspired by it.

Emma wrote a poem based on the 1961 oil painting, Sunflowers, by Ivy G Fife which can be viewed at Christchurch Art Gallery .

Emma's poem was awarded highly commended from over 160 entries in her category (Years 3-6). Emma received a certificate and bag of books and stationery from one of the judges, author James Norcliffe at a prizegiving tonight at St Michael’s School.

Here is Emma's poem:

Sunflowers

One day I’ll see the sunflowers
swirling and whirling
wind blowing the sunflowers
all day long in the valley
along the green grass every day

swirling and whirling
all day long

as long as it grows
green and yellow

all day swirling and whirling
like grass

by Emma Zhen
Year 3
(inspired by the art ‘Sunflowers’ by Ivy G Fife)
