It's here! Toitoi number 9!

Congratulations to Brayden Davies and Ava Danholt, who had their poetry selected for publication in TOITOI.

What a wonderful thing it is to be a published author at such a young age!

You can read Ava's poem, 'THUNDER' on page 55 and Brayden's poem 'Riddles, Flickers' on page 85.

Both poems have been illustrated beautifully by students from other schools elsewhere in New Zealand.

I love reading the teaching notes that come with the Toitoi journal, as they have great ideas from the Toitoi team, inspired by the author's writing. The editors commented on the thoughtful way Ava laid her poem out on the page and challenge us to write a poem of our own about a thunderstorm, thinking about how our words look on the page. Another suggestion is to make our own musical instrument, inspired by our poem that might replicate the sounds of a thunderstorm. Fabulous idea!

Brayden's poem was inspired by a particular colour. The Toitoi team challenges us to write our own colour riddle in which every line begins with the words "I am..." and to give the riddle to a friend and ask them to illustrate it. It would be interesting to see if they are able to guess the correct colour and solve the riddle!
