Drawing Club
Earlier this year, Ahmed and Danial started up Drawing Club at Russley School. It was for budding artists in years 5-8 who wanted to improve their skills, and meet up with other like-minded people to draw on Wednesday lunchtimes. Ahmed and Danial were fantastic tutors.
Unfortunately the fire put an end to Drawing Club, as our tutors were relocated to the University Campus for lessons. Sadly, artwork was also lost in the fire. However, the passion for creating remains, and all the students have kept on drawing in their own time.
Artist Workshop
Today was very exciting!
Some of our Drawing Club members were lucky enough to attend a drawing workshop with artist Gonzalo Navarro.
We learnt how to draw faces, animals, a dragon, and even... a hamburger!
Gonz said the most difficult part of drawing was getting started. He encouraged us to just give it a go, keep practicing heaps and don't be afraid to make mistakes. That's what an eraser is for!
We were inspired by the amazing illustrations in Gonz's book, Aotearoa Whispers. The students were in awe of how speedily Gonz could whip up a portrait on a whiteboard, and his tiger was fabulous!
Thank you so much Gonz for your generosity in giving up your time to share your talent and passion for drawing with us!
